Talking About Electronic Music

Beats for Peace is Now Free

After 2 years I finally returned to this project and am ready for another post. I didn’t expect a whole lot when I released Beats for Peace and in 2 years I haven’t had one sale so I decided the price was wrong and it should be free. I haven’t stopped making electronic music at all but my time for it has been limited and I’ve been focused on just doing it, not putting anything out there. I’ve also made several improvements to my studio and bought a couple of digital recorders from the early 2000s that allow me to work totally dawless which is my preferred workflow.

I’ve done a lot of composing, arranging, sequencing and casual recording over the last two years and I’m thinking about uploading some of it to Soundcloud. I’ve also got another Bandcamp album planned. I transferred the 1/2 inch 8 track tapes I made in 1988 with the Serge Modular at City College of San Francisco to a 24 track Fostex digital recorder and I’m going to do new mixes of the more interesting ones and do an EP of them. Working title of this is “The Serge Sessions”.

Released at Last

I released, yesterday, an album on Bandcamp. This project has been incubating for the last two years. I started the pieces in the lockdowns of 2020 and redited the sequences and remixed them and made the recordings in 2021. I then mastered it with a DAW, a digital mastering processor and an analog compressor. The process had me listen to it so many times that I couldn’t deal with the final steps of getting it on Bandcamp for another year when I could finally listen to it again. So I finished the album art, wrote up some album notes and opened an artist account on Bandcamp and uploaded it. I released it yesterday on the day of the fall equinox.
